Challenge: In the ever-evolving construction industry, there’s a growing demand for products that boast enhanced durability and longevity. A notable initiative within the sector, and with our clients Laing O’Rourke, is a push to extend the lifespan of materials used in building projects. To align with this trend, we aimed to significantly extend the lifespan of our A2 fire rated adhesives, specifically S-2830FRE, to an impressive 60 years.
Solution: We successfully developed the product and engaged in comprehensive external testing through a collaborative effort with Laing O’Rourke. The testing process utilized high-quality pre-cast concrete and brick slips both supplied by Laing O’Rourke, ensuring the highest standards of materials were met. The results of these tests were outstanding, showcasing the products remarkable durability and longevity. Our product was able to meet industry benchmarks, and it was awarded an estimated lifespan of at least 60 years.
Impact: The enhanced longevity of our A2 adhesive significantly minimizes the need for regular maintenance and replacement, thereby offering substantial cost savings over time. Additionally, reduced frequency of maintenance interventions means less disruption to building operations and occupants, further contributing to overall efficiency. The extended lifetime ensures that the adhesive maintains its structural integrity and fire safety standards for a prolonged period, giving peace of mind regarding the buildings long-term safety and durability.
