Which A2 Fire-Rated Epoxy Do You Need?

S-2830FRE vs S-2825FRE

If you’re specifying brick slip cladding on a building over 18 metres, you already know the system has to carry an A2-s1,d0 rating for limited combustibility. We make two separate A2 fire-rated adhesives for this job, not just one. S-2830FRE and S-2825FRE look similar on paper: both are cold-curing epoxies classified A2-s1,d0 under BS EN 13501-1, and both are built specifically to bond brick slips to a range of substrates on high-rise facades. The difference is which role in the fixing system each one is designed for.

What they share

Both products cure at room temperature with roughly an hour of working time at 23°C, reach an initial cure in 24 hours and full cure at 28 days. Both are pigmented so installers can confirm the two parts have mixed properly, and both have passed independent heat, freeze-thaw and bond strength testing.

How to choose

The starting question is structural: does your facade design need the adhesive to act as a major, structurally substantial component, or is it a minor, non-substantial fixing? That classification decides which product you would require.

S-2830FRE is supplied as a three-part dosed system, and has the fire performance capabilities to be specified wherever the fire-rated adhesive is a major, structurally substantial part of the fixing. S-2825FRE is built around a straightforward 1:1 mix by weight, purpose-made for minor, non-substantial applications within its approved application rate.

It’s also worth considering where and how the product will be applied. Application rate needs to be strictly controlled for both products, to comply with regulations, but the minor component carries a lower maximum rate. Therefore, S-2825FRE is best suited to factory settings where that tighter control can be maintained reliably. For on-site application, S-2830FRE is almost always the preferred choice.

Either way, our technical team can discuss the exact maximum application rate and bond line thickness for your chosen product and supply you with full datasheets for both.
